in my blazer i have a 350, th350 with 7" of lift. iam about to put 38.5x15x15. im thinking 4.56, but not sure if this is too much. also how hard is it to change ball joints on the front axel? thanks for any input.

What will it be used for?Going on the highway much?If its not a road use blazer then 4:56s will be fine.Ball joints....some come off easy,some dont.I had to torch mine off.Then had to weld up what I destroyed in the process

The ball joints on the axle sometimes come out easy....but they are time consuming to do. I would suggest changing the u-joint, and wheel bearings at the same time, as you already have it pulled apart

As for gears Personally I like the 3.73's, and 4.11's.....but I am used to 31-33" tires. You have to decide what your going to be doing with the truck....higher gears will kill you highway milage, but it'll have lots of brute torque off the line, and for climbing

I'm running 5:13's with 40" tires and it's still a pig in high range.

Find a gear ratio chart that shows tire size vs. RPM vs. speed and then figure out your 'best case' scenario from there.

Usage is everything, decide where and how it's going to be used.

It's going to be a compromise at best anyway, cause without a doubler/Atlas or something similar to drop your ratio way down, wheeling it with 38.5's and the th-350 is going to be tough.

Although, with enough HP, running the mud is a whole different story.
