Another new guy:choice between 3 headers
I'm another newbie
Picked up 70 3/4 ton (350 w/350 auto) a few weeks ago and have been reading posts on headers From posts I've narrowed it to either hooker 2452 coated, headmen elite shorty or thorley tri-y's nickel chrome. I want to keep it under $400 so these fit my budget Truck is lowered some, not sure how much. I'd prefer the hookers or Thorleys but not sure on ground clearence. Would I be better off with the shorties. Thanks WT |

Normal headers lay about 2-3" below the frame - look around and make sure you can live with that. The shorties will allow you to tuck the exhust near the frame for a cleaner under side. Nice ride. Judging by the ride height you should be fine with both styles of headers.

Re: Another new guy:choice between 3 headers
that truck is freakin awesome dude, but the long tube headers give the best performance upgrade but for a daily driver that might see the track if it even does, the manifolds would be your best bet
gotta post more pics of that thing

That's a nice truck. I like silver and black together.

Re: Another new guy:choice between 3 headers
Thorley Tri-y's all the way. Had a set on a 67 RS Camaro - fit very well, lots of clearance in the engine bay and fit nice and tight to the floor pan. Overall build quality was awesome with nice clean welds, heavy gauge tube for the pipes and nice thick flanges. I had such good luck with those that my buddies truck (big block 1985 xtra cab dually) now has a pair - which he can't stop talking about the great build quality, fit and finish.
His trucks rocker sits 6" off of the ground and has no part of the header hanging lower than the frame rail. My only suggestion is to pay the extra for the ceramic finish since the nickel finish does burn off eventually.
