Hooking up a 700r4

I have been reading the FAQ section on this. You hook up a 12v wire to a later model brake switch then go from the switch to the "A" pin on the trans. My question is the stock plug I have has 2 additional wires. What do they go to? Do they need to be hooked up to anything for the tranny to shift properly? The trans is out of a stock 87. No mods have been done to it.

Re: Hooking up a 700r4

One wire is 12 volts and I think the other wire is for the ground for the lock-up sol valve. You have to remove the pan to be sure, and trace the wires. Mine is an 86 trans with only the one wire and self grounding lock-up valve. While you're at it change the 3-4 shift servo and spring. Also change the 1-2 servo to a Corvette one. Cheap parts and easy to install.

I'm not sure what those wires do because i used the painless kit. no mods? you'd better have a light foot - the earlier 700's are known for their weaknesses. Get a higher pressure regulator for the pump - this will add years to your 700. Put a shift kit in it & I reccomend the painless wiring kit for your trans. Makes it an ez bolt in.

This thing here:

alone added years to my trans my transmission guy said (before i blew it up). It lasted 11 years behind a 327/300hp motor. Dont forget to get the bracket to hook the throttle cable to the intake. Good luck & if you have questions, dont hesite to ask.

I prefer the TCI kit.

It's way cheaper than the painless kit ($75) and it allows you to add switches to control lockup. Lock it in any gear, Or disable lockup to allow towing in 4th gear (like newer trucks).
