Re: question for the 4x4 guys

I have a 79 4x4..its 100% built not bought..its all go no show..i built it to take out and have fun in the woods in and thats what i use it for...i didnt waste money on stuff i didnt need like shiney paint..fancy chrome stuff...body repair.

I also have a 01 zr2 s10 that was bought not built..but i also take that out in the woods just like the old 79. why have 4x4 if your not going to use it..it costs more upfront..cost more on gas..cost more on repair. I actually got the zr2 completely stuck just on the test drive before i bought it...i knew i was going to buy a 4x4 to use not to just look at. Do the truck justice and use it for what it was meant for

Wheels are Mickey Thompson Challengers, as far as I know they are no longer available. I was actually standing on the pavement when I made that shot! I don't like to think of it as a "poser" its just an old truck that I have went through. It just ended up a little tall before we were done with it. Any members who have met me and seen this truck in person can tell you that I'm not afraid to put my foot in it and it is more than capable of getting out of it's own way. We got the Jeep when it had 10K miles and immediately installed the lift. I did it all except for the slip yoke eliminator on my carport. It's never been off road but I have no doubt it would handle it. Part of the Sahara package is the Dana 44 rear with 3.73 gears and the factory posi. I also put wider fender flares and painted them to match the body just like the factory ones. We didn't buy it to go off road. We wanted a lifted Jeep so we built one. I also have a lowered truck but I don't use it specifically to drive under things.

I never took these off road either!

Re: question for the 4x4 guys

Write a check for a monthly payment on a $30-40K (or more) pickup, and credit card bills for lift, tires and wheels and then tell me that it should be flogged the same as a run of the mill trail beater.

Re: question for the 4x4 guys

Why do all these people buy all these fwds,at all?Why own a fwd with tires that will get it nowhere off the road unless dry?
I only like a 4wd because of the tough`n`ready look.Bigger tires enhance that look and it`s ability.
I like any vehicle to fit it`s tires.Lowered vehicles hug the road, but we don`t all run the road like a race track everywhere we go.Certain tires give better traction, but we all get where we`re going on time.Performance motor work is a fun mod,but all vehicles make it to work and up the steepest hills ok.Why do people put chrome, scoops, custom paint, etc.if they aren`t going to show the vehicle? Why soup-up a vehicle if you`re not going to race it?Why buy a motorcycle and haul it on a trailer? Why restore a vehicle to factory new just to let it sit?

Re: question for the 4x4 guys

have a 4WD because I use it like one. I tow my travel trailer with it, haul stuff in it and hunt the woods with it. Its also my daily driver. I hate it when it gets scratched but then again its a truck and I'm using it like one. My wife has put more dents in it with her car (in our own driveway) than I have in the woods !

Re: question for the 4x4 guys

I heard that a lot of the our old restored or refurbished lifted trucks that get thrashed on regularly were once new trucks with lifts and fancy wheels and purty things on them too. So even though it may seem sensless to put money into the goodies that will never see the trail there will be some young guy or gal in 6-10 years that want a lifted truck to go play in and waalaa here is a used truck in good shape that they can afford to go beat on and then in twenty or thirty years it will come to other owners that will fix it up and use or abuse it for times to come til eventually in the 2030's some guy or gal sees a 2006 silverado just like his/her grandpa or dad had when they were a kid and buy it and restore it lifted or not and they will either use it or not. It is a natural cycle folks. My own grandfather rest his soul just could not understand why I wanted to restore my 67. It was just some junker to him just like his 81 he had at the time a truck was for work and then the bone yard. But he sure had fond memories of his only new car 46 ford coupe. Its only money and as long as its not yours who cares. I like the show and no go trucks just as well as the rusty beaters on 35's with 3 colors primer for paint. Its all about individuality. Who wants to be the same as the next guy. Nice used trucks gotta come from somewhere.
