How can you identify the 348 vs the 409?
I have one in a 67 truck. Any info out there,
How much are they really worth?

Re: 348 Big Block

The last year for the W engines was 1965, so someone must have put the engine in that truck. The 348 had the dipstick on the driver's side and the 409 had it on the passenger side. The only problem is the dipstick tube goes into the pan and not the block, and the pans are interchangeable between the two engines. In forty years lots of stuff could have been swapped around so it's hard to know for sure. The only way to tell for sure is to check the numbers.

The car engines are worth more than the truck engines, but as the car motors get harder and harder to find the truck motors are getting a little more valuable.

You can find lot's of good info here: http://www.348-409.com
