Articles like these I see as a mixed blessing. For the novice just starting out, they are a good resource. Once you know more than your typical parts store "expert" working behind the counter, or try to explain to someone how your 84 K10 has factory 2.73 gears and TH350 behind a 305, they start remembering this article and arguing with you. There are just too many exceptions to the "rules" posted in that article to get very excited about it. For every person who says "they never made them that way" there are probably two examples of where they did!
Another great example is my factory short box 87 R10 with the 6.2 Diesel and 700R4. "They never made them that way!" indeed.
