Oven Cleaner

I've read where some folks use oven cleaner on their engines and suspension to get all the crap off. Does this hurt any of the rubber parts? (ball joint seals, grease seals, bushings, hoses etc.)

Re: Oven Cleaner

I dunno about the seals and rubber parts but it will destroy any paint products it comes in contact with.

Re: Oven Cleaner

Im not sure about the rubber parts, but i do no that it works really good on transfer cases and trannies if ur cleanin them too, we use that on the tranny for our race car and it jus looks brand new when we done. Try the cleaner on a similar piece of rubber that is not being used for anything and see what happens, it shouldnt bother anything too much, but dont take my word for it

Re: Oven Cleaner

Aren’t rubber gloves what they recommend wearing while cleaning with oven cleaner?

Re: Oven Cleaner

Put a real thick layer of vasaline over the bushings etc ... try not to concentrate the spray on the bushings if at all possible. It shouldnt bother the rubber as long as you dont leave it on for a long time. Just coat it with vasoline or something like it and spray the oven cleaner and right after wipe off the bushings.
