anyone run exhaust outside of frame?

was holding my new flowmasters under the truck today just cuz I was bored, im waiting to buy either manifolds or headers to run exhaust.
They fit pretty well on the outside of the frame at the back of the cab, just wondering if anyone has done this.. they will just dump before the rear tire if I do it

I've owned a few that had them done that way by previous owners. Pretty much works best with manifolds. They come off the manifolds and cut underneath the frame right behind the lower control arms where the frame is angled. This keeps 'em from hanging too low. Then, under the cab, they usually bend the square corner up out of the way, again so the pipes don't have to be run so low.

Mine is. Still trying to decide whether or not I like it. Tx Firefighter pretty much described mine perfectly. They curl around the frame past the control arms. One small problem I had was the inner fenders. I had to notch them a little to get it by, and not have it hang so low. Mufflers are directly under the cab, they it continues down the frame, and comes out behind the rear wheels.

If I was to cut a hole in my frame & put some 1/4" pipe in the hole for my exhaust to run through, would that weak'n my frame (like what a lot of peeps do to the X-member to run the exhaust through)

The reason I thought this is: I like the idea of running my exhaust outside the frame, but I have long headers & 3" exhaust

what about putting in a bolt in notch kit, thats made for the rear when you lower? would that work up front

I think if I do it, I'll box a section of the frame & put a piece of 1/4" wall pipe in the frame

i think this would work, but maybe put a plate to and it should be fine and might even be better than the notch
