Need opinions....my motor setup
Hey guys, Im new to all this but recently rebuilt my motor in th 65 c-10. 350 shortblock with 283 heads, Edelbrock perf. int. mani., 4barrel carb, block hugger headers. TH350 with 2800 stall converter....is the stall too much for daily driving/a bit of fwy?...when test driving it, the fawker spun the wheels at any type of throttle pressure! fun...BUT took it on the fwy for a few and it just seems to rev like crazy! not sure if this combo is good for the highway or not.

Should be fine. What gears are you running? That will be the main factor.

Re: Need opinions....my motor setup
I'd say you have a gearing issue, torque conv. sounds like it's doing it's job.
Our trucks came with differant gear ratio's, alot of them with low gears because they where built to work. |

Re: Need opinions....my motor setup
got 65 also rearend could be anything from 3.07 to 4.11 gearing. mine's 4.11 great for keeping tire companies in business but lousy for hwy. driving 65mph is max i run it at. had to go to 5 core radiator to do that.

Re: Need opinions....my motor setup
you can always do the test to find out your gear ratio.
With the truck in neutral, jack up one side of the rear end. If that tire doesn't spin, its a posi, if it does, you got an open differential. Now jack up the whole rear end so both tires can spin freely. Mark where the driveshaft meets the rear end so you can count how many revolutions it makes. If you have a posi, spin a tire one full revolution while counting how many times the driveshaft spins. If you have an open diff., spin a tire two full revolutions and count how many time the driveshaft spins. If its a little over 4, you've got 4.11 gears, around 3 3/4, you've got 3.73, ect. ect. |
