alternator housing ??
My '72 alt. has the bracket on the bottom (long bolt) that bolts on to the back of the alt.. The new alt I got last week didn't match where I needed to bolt the bracket. It was off by 1/4 turn. I took out the 4 bolts holding the front and the back of the housing together and carefully turned the housing to where it needed to be.
Would or could this have messed up something inside the alt ???

Re: alternator housing ??
As long as you turned the winding with the rear part of the housing and did not separate the two halves to where the brush came off of the end of the armature, you should be ok.

Re: alternator housing ??
It would charge after I put it on, But I suddenly had a key off drain. Finally figured out today that the alternator was causing the key off drain. Would anything I did make it do this ??

Re: alternator housing ??
I know rebuilt alternators and starters are often bad,,,,,, so I don't know if I messed it up or not.
Well, I guess this is more of a moral question,,,,,,, should I take it back ??

Re: alternator housing ??
If you pulled the housing out too far you might have popped that small spring out, or the small metal piece may have fallen out also.. I did this one an alt when changing the "clock" position. I had to take it to a alt shop and have them put it back together.
Good luck! |
