CPP rear disc brake kit?????
Hey guys, working on my build project and I had purchased the CPP rear disc brake kit. The brackets line up just fine but my problem seems to be with the calipers and/or bracket. When you slide the calipers into there mounting location, the rotor will need to be pulled out away from the axle about 3/4" to get the setup to work correctly. The way I see this problem to be corrected would be to unbolt the caliper bracket and put a 3/4" spacer between the axle flange and the bracket.
Has anyone ran into this problem before or am I really tired and losing my mind???? Please if anyone has the any suggestions or has run into this problem, please let me know. Thanks guys!!! |

Re: CPP rear disc brake kit?????
I have no clue about the kit but I have heard the axles in late 1970 were a little wider OR shorter. I can't remember which, but maybe somebody swapped your axle out to the one that don't work with their kit. This is just a W.A.G.

Re: CPP rear disc brake kit?????
I used there kit and mine had no problem mounting,,,Are your axle flanges warped? Mine came with spacers and it lined up. I have had issues with getting everything else to work, did you get the master cylinder and prop valve from them too?

Re: CPP rear disc brake kit?????
Yeah it came with the front disc's, MC and all. No problem on the fronts. I didn't have any spacers with the kit besides the caliper bracket that had 3 roughly 1/4" spacers welded to the bracket itself. I guess what is throwing me off is possibly the axles. The axles came from CPP as well when I ordered the kit. They are 30 3/4" axles but it seems like the kit maybe was made for 31.5" axles. That would give me the 3/4" I would need or I could possibly make these axles work and make the 3/4" back by spacing the bracket in. Let me know what you think of that and if that may work mechanically without safety issues..
Thanks again for the replies! Last edited by mkhutch; 04-21-2007 at 09:58 PM. |

Re: CPP rear disc brake kit?????
I installed a set on my 72 and the install was easy. The only problem that I have had is adjusting them.

Re: CPP rear disc brake kit?????
i have the same kit on my '72 & along with fastfun i didn't have too much trouble though some how i actually put the calipers on the wrong side, evrything worked but they faced toward the front instead of facing the back. i talked & looked at fastfun's setup, went home & switched sides with the calipers & they seem to work fine too. i think the directions could be better at discriptions of the pics & the steps. i hope this helps....
good luck & maybe give them a call (techline) & see what they say.... rodstored-72 |
