VIN #s

I have looked at the block in my truck and the block # reads that it could be either a 305,327,or 350. Is there a way to tell which engine came with the truck by looking at the vin? I am not sure of how to read the vin.

Re: VIN #s

Nothing in the VIN but a letter designant for number of cylinders. You need to go by the engine numbers.

Re: VIN #s

If it's a 68 it shouldn't have a 350.

Thumbs up Re: VIN #s

You will need the following numbers located on your block ....

* Pass. side on engine boss just in front of the head you will find numbers/ letters stamped into the block these numbers/letters will tell you what the block is.

* Back of block just below the distributor is a cast (raised) set of numbers these will tell you the year your engine was cast.

* Drivers side rear just opposite the numbers by the distributor are a cast set of numbers that will tell you the family group.

**********************************************************

I do not have a book pertaining to your engine .... these numbers will give you the info. that you will need to source your engine.

esll.
