Question Timing adjustments for '95.

Does anyone know how to adj the timing for a '95 s-10 pick-up? I can't quite figure out how to disable the timing and where to measure it. Any thoughts????

Inside the cab, passenger side, under the heater box ( just above the carpet) you'll find a harness. There will be a black/tan wire with a very small connector, disconnect it. Your now in service mode and can set the timing. The check engine light will come on to let you know its in the correct mode and will stay on until you turn the key off, reconnect the timing connector, then restart.

You'll set the timing with a regular timing light connected to #1 wire. Set timing @0 degree's

Thanks Piston,
Maybe you'll know where the best place to shine the timing light on the pulley would be. I looked at the setup and there's not much space if any to get a good look at the lighted mark. It also seems that the timing tab is in a weird place. Any thoughts on that?

What about the pulley itself, it has at least two hash marks in it. Which one do I mark?

Final thought: Why couldn't it be as easy as my '69 setup?????

It should be just as easy.. actually the timing marks are in the same area and read just the same as your older engine. You'll have a timing tab bolted onto the drivers side of the block (infront of the timing cover) that shows timing marks from 0 - 15 degree's. Hold your timing light infront of the alternator pulley and shine down to the harmonic balancer.

There are 2 marks, one is a 1/4" wide mark which is used for magnito pickup (scopes) and a smaller 1/8" wide mark used for timing lights/Tab

Sometimes you'll need to clean off the tab with brake clean and a rag. Also to make the mark easier to see, take a bottle of liquid paper and brush and highlight the timing mark on the balancer.
I use liquid paper because it has a 3" brush and its easier to get into tough places.

Also, make sure your connecting the inductive pickup on #1 cylinder. First cylinder on the drivers side. (it will be the only one on that side with a straight plug wire boot)

Hey Piston,
Quick update,
Finally got around to finding that damn wire (tan/black), it wasn't under the carpet like it should have been. I removed the whole underdash (plastic covers) looking for it. I finally found it behind the EMC? (at least that's what I think it is, it's right on top of the coolant overflow tank). Anyways it was right there behind alot of wires. The only thing that I noticed was the engine speed was fluctuating up and down about 200 rpm with the plug undone. Is that normal? I couldn't really see the timing marks on the tab, so I just set it to the center notch. Is that the thing to do?
I'll have to wait until morning to give it a test run and see if the hesitation is gone from 3rd to 5th. If you have any more comments I'd be glad to hear them out. Thanks.
