stereo opinion
alright, got an idea in my head that i'm trying to decide on.
right now i have a lower-mid end headunit in the truck along with some qlogic kickpanels and some decent component 6.5" speakers. the rear speakers are gone and the ones in the dash are busted as hell. i drive the truck MAYBE 3000 miles a year(yes i know, its sad but what can ya do with gas and a baby) i'm thinking of removing all the stereo equipment and not having a radio or any audio in the truck. when i do drive it, most of the time i have the radio off and just use it as a clock and the other half i have to have it turned up so loud to hear it over the exhaust that it starts to distort i dont care about music while i'm driving it so i figured i could clean up the wiring a little and have room for some extra gauges or something down there what do you all think about this idear of mine? |

Re: stereo opinion
I put a pretty decent system in mine, and rarely turn it on, but if it was not there, I'd HAVE to put one in, just to have it in.
You'll probably miss it. my $.02

Re: stereo opinion
well like i said, it gets drove 3000ish miles a YEAR. so when i am driving it, i would much rather listen to the sweet sound of the exhaust than the sound of played out radio music

Re: stereo opinion
What you do with your truck is your choice.
Its no secret that I'm an audiophile, so to say that my answer is predictable is an understatement. I feel the same way as you do with my El Camino. I'd rather listen ot the rumble of the SBC than the stereo.

Re: stereo opinion
I think i would make the radio better so it wont distort when you have it on. I mean if you only drive the truck 3000 miles a year the argument could be made why have the truck??My radio blew out for a while and it took me a while to get around to fixing it but i did. My reasoning was if there is ever some kind of problem when youre out in the truck its nice to be able to get some kind of info on it ( tornados ,traffic. major news event like a plane crash or god forbid aVT type of problem in the area)its nie to be able to get some kind of info in an emergency where cell phones may or may not work

Re: stereo opinion
I vote to drop it if since you don't drive it that much plus you already got the exhaust tunes to listen too!

Re: stereo opinion
Why remove it if you got some decent parts in it ?
Disconnect the dash speakers and rear speakers of course, or even remove them if you like, but I don't see why leaving the head unit and 6.5's is a problem. Even if you rarely use it, all it's going to do is leave a gaping hole in the dash. You never know when you might get the itch to cruise to some tunes. |

Re: stereo opinion
Man, for me if I don't have tunes it's not worth having!!! lol. I even put a radio on my fourwheeler!!!! The tape player stopped working and the radio wouldn't pick up so I stole the antenna off my monte carlo and put it on the atv lol.
I have a very nice system in my monte carlo, and it's lucky to see a thousand miles a year. Still, everytime we take it out, radio is cranking. I listen to the pipes alot, that's why I am changing to flowmasters, glasspacks are annoying me now, they are loud like I love it, but that have this bad noise in between buildings and bridges, which I don't like. I always hear them because I wait until about 4-6k to shift it lol. Stereo is usually the first upgrade we make. As soon as we got the 84 first thing we done was gutted the inside, ran amp wire, and grounds, put in amp and cut down a sub box and threw in 2 10's. Aded the cb and xm sat. radio also. If you don't miss it now then it might work for you, and you could definately add 2 guages for sure maybe 3. But now you can turn it on and listen to it, if you remove it then you can't, ever. if it distorts and is busted replace them.

Re: stereo opinion
alright, i think i know what i'll do.
i'll be buying a new gauge bezel for when i install the rest of my autometer gauges, so it will be a virgin piece i was thinking i could just bring the whole thing back to stock. new stock headunit, new stock speakers, etc. that way it wont look awful and i'll have some music if i want it. |
