anyone know anything about ign. coils?

well I'm having a problem I just cant seem to figure out. today I decided to pull the dist. cap off to see how it looked and when I put it back on, my truck wouldn't start. after fiddling with it for an hour I gave up and went to the store and bought a new coil, cap and rotor. I put it all back together and the timing was off I accidentally placed the plug wires one notch over from where they were supposed to be. the truck ran but only for a second so I fixed the wires fired it back up and she ran (weakly)for 45 seconds and stalled now she wont start again it seems that I lost my spark again. the coil was pretty hot so I'm guessing I burned this one out too. anyone have any idea what would cause me to burn out 2 coils? the engine is a V6 2.8L
Thanks guys

I dont know much about the v6 but is it HEI? Check your main power wire and make sure there's no short in it. Also check to make sure you dont have the two leads crossed.

check to make sure that no wires are touching any part of the exhaust manifold too yuears back i had a ford and there was some kind of condensor that would heat up and blow out the coil

Have you replaced the module or the pickup coil in the bottom of the dizzy?
