On the front or Yolk side of the axle there will be a squared hole pipe plug, use a ratchet to remove it. On level ground fill untill oil starts to come out the hole.

Another way to tell the ratio of the rear gears is by the code stamped on the passenger side tube of the rear end housing. The first picture shows the area of the housing where the code is stamped and the second picture is of the code number itself. When You have the code just use the first two or three letters ('67-'69 have two letters & '70-'72 have three) and look it up here in the axle codes section. http://www.americanclassic.com/paint.htm The letters TDE on this one tells me it is a 307:1 - 1/2 ton assembly LockDoc
