Stripped Head
Guys i got a philips headed screw on my driver door card i cant get out. Ive tried taking a screwdriver and wackin it with a hammer and the driver just wont grab the screw. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you familiar with opening a stuck jar lid with a table knife by striking the rim of the lid in the direction it turns to open? Get a regular screwdriver with a crisp edge and tap the screw on the edge driving couter-clockwise. Adjust the angle of attack to get the bite you need without knocking a chunk out of the screw. Work around the edge as you needed for a new bite at your screw because they are soft and will tear. Just work at it and apply some penetrating oil to help loosen it(PB Baster is real good).If you don't want to wait for original style screws to be ordered, just use 1/4-20 thread bolts.

drill the head off ... once you have the door panel removed, then you can get a grip on the remainder of the screw body with vise grips ... AFTER soaking it with Kroil or WD-40

I've drilled off a few of them. not fun.
If the door panel is junk, you can try vise grips to grab the head and twist it out. |

thing that usually works for me...
use a die grinder or dremel to cut a groove, and use a flat head screwdriver to turn it out.

if the head isn't totally stripped yet, I've had some luck with an impact driver (the kind you put a screwdriver tip in and smack with a hammer).

Had the same problem with one of mine...just drilled out the screw head and used a pliers or vise-grip from the backside after removing the panel.
