Re: Check out Dale Jr's Chevy!
An interesting note: Of the three types of cars raced in the Busch and Nextel Cup series, only one is produced in the US - the Toyota Camry. The others are made in Canada or Mexico. You'd be better off buying a Nissan Titan and helping out the poor schmoes in Mississippi than buying "American."

Re: Check out Dale Jr's Chevy!
I believe that he was suggesting that even though Toyota's are built in the US (Indiana) that it is a Japanese owned company... therfore not on his "to buy" list.
Personally, nothing is solely produced in the US anymore so why not buy what you want. My family retired from GM and I have to say that GM and its employees have run themself out of business and competition (high wages = high auto prices etc...) Not wanting to fuel a debate because there is not "right" answer. I know a lot of people that left Chrysler in Indiana to work for Toyota...

Re: Check out Dale Jr's Chevy!
"So are you suggesting we buy Honda Ridgelines's instead?"
I think if you compared the simple style designs of our trucks with a Ridgeline it's a no brainer. Even though our trucks are over 30 years old they have a much better design than the ridgeline. Plus our trucks are collectable work trucks. I cant see the Ridgline being desirable in 30 years let alone in 5 years. The ridgeline is not a real work truck designed to do what trucks were designed to do. ![]()

I can't argue with collectible as I have a small collection of my own?!? In five years if the Ridgeline has needed to have its heater/AC control head replaced (at 3,000 miles), needed its front brakes re-done repeatedly (with less than 50,000), needed its intake gaskets replaced (with under 70,000), engine "piston slap" noise (after 20,000), than no, it wouldn't be desireable. But if after 150,000 miles it has needed little more than regular maintenance (my experience with Hondas) than I would think it would be highly desireable. Tell me again, why did I buy an '06 after having problems with my '98 and having friends have problems with the NBS trucks???? Since my '86 GMC is the only one of my trucks I use as a "truck", the Ridgeline looks better all the time. I'll never admit this to her, but when my girlfriend points these things out to me, I find it harder and harder to argue with her...

Re: Check out Dale Jr's Chevy!
Ridgeline as a potential collector truck? : Crazy: Reliability wasn't the issue. Collectability was the point and it would be hard to convince me the Ridgeline will ever have a following as the 67-72 trucks now have and will continue to have. The Ridgeline I am sure is a nice city truck and is reliable like other Hondas but as far as payload and pulling ability it falls way short of what a real work is truck is designed to do. I also own a 99 Tacoma TRD 4x4 and it's a nice truck but it will never have a following as 67-72 trucks have. Then again...what do I know?

Re: Check out Dale Jr's Chevy!
I think the new ones are ugly. Do you suppose the earlier versions of '07, which Chevy called "Classic" styling, will be referred to as '07 1st series? I think the last time they changed styles in semi-mid model year was 1955.

Re: Check out Dale Jr's Chevy!
Uhh, Hey Biff, 'ol buddy, don't know quite how to tell 'ya this, but the day after Thanksgivin' I went & bought an '06 Silverado. I didn't realize until the following day, when I was looking through the paperwork, and happened to look at all the fine print on the window sticker, but its final assembly plant was Silao, GJ MEXICO. ... Sorry, man...

Re: Check out Dale Jr's Chevy!
The 88 models hit in January, 1987. I think you could buy both models of the truck until the end of the model year. Likewise, in 1999, you could still get a "classic" 1998 style truck.
