oil level in axle

are the plugs in a closed knuckle front end used to fill the ends of the axle where the ball joint bearings are with oil?

I think so... will check my shop book later and get back to ya. They are called Trunnion Bearings.

Pretty sure it's not oil, but thin grease...something about the felt knuckle seals not being quite up to keeping oil in, IIRC.

Also, learned this from an old mechanic up here, if driving in snow you should turn the steering lock-to-lock once you get where you're going, so that no ice forms on the knuckles to bust up the felt later.

Will look at manual this evening to see what they spec'd. Unless Boone beats me to it.
