rear diff question

The other day I was sitting at a friends house and we were wondering if my truck had a limited slip.

Well the easiest way, lay some rubber.

He was on the drivers side of the truck when I stomped on it and sure enough the tire spun, cool I thought.

So I took off and looked behind me, only one trail

Now my question is, were there ever and open diffs where the left side took the power? I have never seen and it was pretty funny. But if it isn't supposed to do that, it needs fixing. More to add to the list.

hummm something sounds funky..

better do a rear diff fluid change just to look inside for chunks.. chances are it needs it any way

it isn't made to send power to the right... it just happens that way.
The power will go to the tire with least resistance. When you romp on it, the torque unloads the right rear.
So, SOMETHING is causing resistance on the right rear, and that sends the power to the wheel more likely to spin... the left.


I'd start with the brakes... jack it up and try to turn the right rear by hand (in neutral with both tires in the air)

Sounds like a plan. I will take a look at the brakes and change the fluid. And go from there. Thank you.

My DD did the same thing, it left one heck of a black mark but only with left tire.
My spid said posi, and on dirt they will both spin like mad.
I think my posi is just wore out, and your's might be the same

I will have to pull the cover sometime soon. Just got a new rear spring kit. Have to do a motor swap, then some new brakes all the way around...and I'm sure both wheels spinning will keep dropping on the list of acomplishments!!
Oh well....

Man - you sound like I guess every other guy that has a list to do.
I have had a brand new brake booster/master cylinder setup to try to install for a month now.
It is sitting beside my new rear sway bar (over a year old) which is beside my center seat belt.

Don't you love it though?

Yeah, I love it the money never stops finding its way into the truck. The problem is I need a good way to replace it in the pockets!!

Yeah, the rear isn't making any noises or howling or anything and no leaks. So I will probably just change the fluid and take a look up in there. And go from there.

my rear end is confusing when i first slam gas both tires spin for about a foot then just right tire and it will spin until i let up on gas or get to speed but why doesent the left one stay spinning is they both do at initial take off

Now if your posi is worn out, then you don't have a posi anymore
