Yea you can mount cable operated shifts anywhere, on the roof or dash if you want, as long as you have long enough cable and no sharp bends in it.

Dunno about that pistol grip, never got used to them. I'm most comfortable with balls (spherical ones, like my current 8-ball) and T-handles, pistol grips just never felt quite right in my hand...
