Crazy Option?
I bought a 1 ton today that was originally a camper, but it has no park on the indicator. You cannot put the trans. in park. Has anyone ever had one of these and can the trans. be converted back? Is there such a thing as a lock out on the inside of the trans.? It's a 400 trans. and I didn't see anything unusual on it either.

Re: Crazy Option?
It`s missing the park cog and they made a special indicator w/o park. These were the first autos put in 1t trucks and they feared people relying on park tohold the trucks w/o the hand brake.My`70 CustomCamper/30 had that set-up,as did any 1t with auto.

Re: Crazy Option?
The 1-1/2 tons & larger had Allison transmissions-no park & no way to put one in it. The 400 should have the provision in the case for the pawl- but I can't say for sure as I haven't been into one of these non- park 400's. If the provision is there, it should be easy to drop the pan and install a pawl & actuator rod. I'd be curious to know if the pawl is in there, just no actuator rod.

Re: Crazy Option?
Hmmn, or could all the internals be there, just a lockout in the column mechanisim? Pulling the linkage off at the trans shift shaft & trying to rotate it into park would tell the story.

Re: Crazy Option?
The previous owner said he tried removing the linkage, but there was still no park. Thanks for the response.
