Delco Batteries.

I know that Delco batteries are made by AC Delco. My question is are they farmed out to Mexico etc. or are they still made in the good old USA.

Thumbs up Re: Delco Batteries.

32 have looked and no response .... AC DELCO must make their own.

esll.

I've always had good luck with DELCO .... I strayed and now I'm back on track. It will feel good to put back the DELCO in the 70' G.M.C. today.

Re: Delco Batteries.

Are they producing batteries for other companies. It sounds like they are an American company .... are they? I went out and bought a Delco Battery today and I must say it's good to see the Delco name in the engine bay of my G.M.C.

Re: Delco Batteries.

Johnson Controls makes a dern good battery. They used to make the "Never Start" battery for Hell-Mart, but remember...when any company makes a private-label product it MAY be made to the customers specs. It may be re-packaged/re-labeled or it may be a whole different product.

Re: Delco Batteries.

Johnson Control makes Diehard, AC Delco, Interstate, and probably Motorcraft batteries. Diehard Platinum is made by Enersys.

Re: Delco Batteries.

perfect example...Die-easy ain't worth a turd-in-the-hand, Interstate are okay. Motorcraft are pretty good. I am not aware that Enersys makes ANY automotive batteries. Exide that makes automotive batteries is NOT the same as Enersys that makes Industrial batteries. They split around 15 years ago.

Re: Delco Batteries.

I purchased a Delco battery from the GM dealer today. Installed it and started the 70' GMC up and she fired up like a dream. I take it Johnson Controls produces a good battery for Delco .... right.

I got it load tested at the dealer and it checked out more then spec. for the battery. The tech said that with the key in the on position it should read 12.2V with no load and running it should be 14V load or no load on it. I have an after market gauge (new) reads 12V key in the on position with no load and running load or no load 12V. What's up why no 14V when running.

Re: Delco Batteries.

I'm not sure about the new ACD batteries but the AC Delco ones didnt stand up well to a small parasitic draw.
I like to stay with Interstate. much better reserve capacity ratings for the series I use.

Re: Delco Batteries.

If you only have 12v running, i would say the alternator is bad. A 12 volt battery with no load should have 12.8-13.2 volts.

Wal-Mart changed to Exide from Johnson Controls a few years ago...at least in the midwest. They may have more than 1 supplier based on regon, but I'm not sure.

Exide Technologies (the automotive Exide) also ownes GNB who makes the Champion brand batteries.

Re: Delco Batteries.

Thanks for all the info. and help.

One more question .... if a guy put a jumper @ the fuse box so his park lights would run as new cars do, would that effect the V reading or would it still be around 13.2V when running?

esll.

Diehard is a good battery, depending on how cheap you are. A Gold or SUV battery is fantastic battery, but they are made for different climates (north and south) The Weatherhandler is what I would consider a minimun for most vehicles. The Northern battery stands up to harsh North Dakota winters pretty well. We replace a lot of Motorcraft batteries.

Enersys makes the Diehard Platinum. It is a AGM military spec battery.

Arrow Re: Delco Batteries.

I don't think they are made by AC delco anymore I had one of the older one's a few year's ago and it said some classic battery company had bought the right's to make them ? it was on the bottom , that one was not fun you had to keep it charged and keep putting water in it but now they make them wet charged and maintenence free !! little pricey but I will probably buy one , heck I need two , one for my 67 camaro and one for my 67 c10 ,,
