New paint on my 72
Just thought i would post a pic of my jimmy after i finished it. This was my first paint and body job. the pic is 3 years old. i haven't been able to work on the truck in almost 2 years now. however all the engine and interior is done. i still need doors though. only thing holding me up is the drive shaft issues i have.

Re: New paint on my 72
the driveshaft u-joints will brake if i let the clutch out to fast. i have a 400 sbc .030 over with 10:1 compression. all the geometry is correct. no lift. and all parts were installed properly. i just gona upgrade all the yokes and joints.
Also, its not exactly black. its black cherry. it came off a 1982 gm car. i have been told a monty and also a caddy, but i aint to sure. |

Pretty odd, they of course should be able to handle that. Are we just talking the rear driveshafts or are you doing that with it in 4wd? Good looking K5!

Re: New paint on my 72
Don't rev it up so high . Also, you don't need doors to drive it.

Black Cherry, that sounds nice. Don't think I saw that before...More Pics, more pics.
Now that I look at it again, I see a slight red in the front fender where the sun hit it...coooooooooooooooooooool

Re: New paint on my 72
just the rear driveshaft. its got a sm465 with 3.73 posi and 33" tires. Also i am not reving it up that high. i have never gone above 5000 with the engine rpms and never let the clutch out anywhere near that. as far as 4wd, i dont have a front driveshaft.

Re: New paint on my 72
Hmmm, that's pretty odd. Hope the upgrade solves the problem - just doesn't make any sense why your having that issue at all.

Re: New paint on my 72
Is the engine bogging down before the u-joints break?? I'm wondering if maybe the rear-end is locked up. A torqie motor like a 400 is definitely strong enough to break stock u-joints when there is no give from the axle.
Awesome paint job by the way. |

Re: New paint on my 72
no the engine does not bog down. i have broken the joints 3 times. first time was trying to break the tires loose, the other 2 i just let the clutch out a little fast on dry pavement. i am afraid to get stuck somewhere again.
Now here is the question. 1350 or 1410 series, as i understand 1310 are already on it. also, any special place to get the stuff from? Thanks guys for the comments and help. |
