Re: Restore or Modernize

Put your money into making it run nice. I agree that the exterior has quite a bit of character to it as it is.

I say restore and modernize. Don't go with a 305, 307's are a better engine, more power. Make the truck fun and comfortable for you to drive, and go from there.

Re: Restore or Modernize

I like the looks of those old parts trucks. A form of classic 'rat' to me.

If the truck was well known and had a long history in town, at some point, I'd probably restore it to it's original glory. The old car/truck buffs would think it was a 'hoot' and it would give rise to a lot of conversations at cruise ins.

But, that's just me. I agree that getting the mechanicals in order and then driving it for awhile is the best idea. You'll get a sense of direction after a good summer.

Keep in mind too that bringing one of these Babies back is an expensive proposition...

Good luck.

Re: Restore or Modernize

Sell off the body if you really want to go a different root.I,for one, would buy that sheet metal and leave it alone.I`d only fix the rust and blend a dull mix to the outer parts replaced.Selling it would go towards buying better used or new metal and save on rust repair.
This way you are preserving the originality(for someone who wants that)and you`re building the truck how you really want it.If this makes sense to you, give me first shot at it.I know, sounds like I had a motive. But,really, doesn`t what I said solve the whole question?
You could paint whatever color you think is coolest and make whatever changes you want as you build it.
