My latest project...84 Burb engine swap
Just thought I would share my lastest project that I am almost finished with.
I picked up this 84 3/4ton Suburban with a 454/TH-400, and the 1-ton rear end for free. The catch was the engine had a knock, or so I was told, and the interior needed a major clean up. After hearing it run, my friend and I think it is valve train related. I wanted the engine from it and my Brother said he was interested in the rest of it. I had a good 350 (from my 71 chevy truck) sitting in my shop, so we decided to put the 350 in place of the 454. I acquired the manifolds and accessory brackets and pulleys to convert the 350 over to a long water pump set up and have been slowly getting it set up in the Burb...I was delayed a week or so because I was sick. In addition to the manifolds and accessory brackets and pulleys, I had to replace the radiator (the original came out in 2 pieces), find a different fan shroud, rebuild the alternator, and I've installed an extra oil pressure and water temperature gage. Late Saturday evening I have pretty much finished the engine swap and got it running nicely...will try to have pics later on today. Eventually, we are going to look for the parts to put cruise control back on and reinstall the A/C. All that's left to make it a driver is to bleed the rear brakes and replace the window in the tailgate..the original was broken. After the test drive my Brother gets to deal with the interior.
