Question Can I change the power strng pulley?

Got Some Problems!
Set the idle at 650rpm on my 71 350 (that's where the sticker on the air cleaner said to put it). I've never had it that low but it doesn't die. However, when it is at idle the lights dim and the heater fan slows down until I speed up, and worst of all the steering doesn't work unless I give it gas, even when I'm rolling. I am wondering if I can put a smaller pully on my pump. Thanks everyone.

PS Still have tranny whine, but she runs like a hell cat at 85!lol

I think that you may have a pump problem. Unless the PS belt is slipping the power steering should work at idle.

Of course, I am assuming that your tires are not huge.

Original external regulator alternator systems don't put out heavy current until 1200 rpm or thereabouts. Thats why theres a difference in the lites and blower until you start driving. Thats another reason to upgrade to an internal regulator alternator. As far as the steering, I know that with winter here, my belts seem to get more play till engine gets hot.
