Long or Short Water Pump??
What determines the need for a "long" or "short" water pump? I just got a used Chevy 350 for free and it needs the add ons. How do I know what water pump to put on?
Also, if this motor doesn't work out, any opinions on where to purchase an inexpensive remanufactured engine? Kragen? Autozone? Others?? Thanks.

Re: Long or Short Water Pump??
I am going thru this also. What you need is all the brackets pwr steering, alt, water pump pulley & crank shaft pulley for what ever pump you use long or short water pump. The entire set must match to either short or long water pump. Keeps everything lined up for your belts.

Re: Long or Short Water Pump??
THANKS , FarmerFred!! I see you have answered this question before. This motor is a later model and the timing marks are right on top of the timing chain cover so I will need a long pump rather than a short one where the timing marks are off to the side.
Good Job!

Re: Long or Short Water Pump??
What is the diffeerence on them? I went to the Advanced auto site and check 1975 350 and 1980 350 for a C-10 and the part #'s are different.

Re: Long or Short Water Pump??
This may help with the differences.
As for what one to use short would have been on there but if you have nothing long pump asserories are easier to come by IMO. Either will work.
