Question big block cadillac(472/500) motors in '64-'66 trucks?

Anybody have any information on putting the big block cadillac motors, the 472 and 500 in the 1964-1966 trucks?

setup, layout, motor mounts, transmissions used...

I'm just curious.

I know there is a truck over on the 67-72 side of this forum with a cad 500 in it...

Try checking this site out W.. I am sure you will get an answer from them.. I was thinking about putting a caddy engine in my truck awhile back and ordered all the catalogs from them.. Now I am thinking of a Duramax Diesel running on Bio Diesel.. who knows ... http://www.cad500parts.com/

Longhorn Man is the one with the caddy motor, or one of the ones.

It's an easy fit compared to the 67-72 trucks. No firewall work or trimming of anything if you use the Eldo pan & RWD exhaust manifolds, but the engine may have to sit forward a bit to avoid firewall work. The old vertical flow radiators don't have much surface area, so a 4 row or aluminum (better yet) will be needed. Are you wanting to do this on a 2 or 4wd? 4wd is a little trickier.

jeffspower,

I'm just sorta kinda interested, poking around to see what all is involved.

It is more of a academic interest.

What are the problems between 2wd and 4wd ?

----

Chevy Fleetside,

I've thought that a duramax in a 64-66 3/4 ton or ton truck would be pretty nifty.

The 4wds have the motor mounted farther back causing clearance issues

Yep, here's what I did on my '72 K20 to make it fit. It's a tight fit from all aspects. I put it in without a body lift originally. It's pictured with the 3" BL it has now. The lower part of the cutout would still have to be there even with the BL, and if you want to get the valve cover off without the BL, all as shown. I have a nice cab i'm going to put on someday. I plan on forming a recess & making it look OE next time

I had a friend who put a Jaguar front end and a Cadillac 500 in his 55 Studebaker truck. It turned out real nice. But they are gutless motors unless you get a 1970 or earlier.
