Gmc 305e V6
Hi All,
This is my first post so please bear with me I am looking to replace the carburetor and distributor. I have learned after lots of reading that the Pertronix Igniter Kit part #1162A and the Flame Thrower 40,000 Volt Coil part # 40001 would be a good choice. Would you all agree with this? Or is there something better? Easier? Cheaper? For the carburetor I am considering the Holley Street 500cfm 2-barrel part # 4412S or the Demon Street Demon 2-Barrel Carburetor 500cfm part #1372210m. What do you think? Or is there something better? Easier? Cheaper? The Stromberg-Bendix Model WW is badly worn and leaks, and I am tired of replacing points, is the reason for the change. Thanks for any help and/or suggestions as to what I should do. John |

I'm not too well versed with this motor, but I think you can upgrade to HEI. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I guess I'll take a crack at this one........
Put the Holley 500 2bbl. on your V6. You will be amazed how much it wakes them up. They won't be any street machine or tire smoker, but it will give it a lot more power and more giddyup. I can't help you as far as the distributor goes. You can convert to HEI by using a Buick 231 distributor, but it requires a little work. Welcome from SoCal. As for your ignition the Pertronix setup would be the cheapest and easiest. A better setup would be to swap in an HEI setup from a '79 thru '85 Buick 3.8 even fire V-6. However that would require some minor machine work and a new set of high quality wires. The Holley 2 barrel would help much, and it's fairly easy to do. Also, if you hav'nt done so already split the exhaust to duals with some free flowing mufflers and ditch the single pea-shooter exhaust system.

Thanks for all the good info.
One more question though, which would you all get, the shiny zinc-coated finish Holley or the Dichromate finish? Does the shiny zinc-coated finish hold up ok? Thanks again for all the info. John

I've got the shiny one, the air cleaner covers it up pretty well and you can't see it much. But its been on for over a year now and still looks pretty good. If I wiped it off once in awhile it would look real good.
