Factory LS5 454 V8? See pic
I have a 72 short bed, Cheyenne that I believe came with a 454 from the factory. The glove box sticker indicates it has a LS5 454 V8 (see pic). There is also a well worn sticker on the drivers side inner fender (emission control sticker) that says 454, 1972 model year etc. Could it be?

Looks to me like it says LS6. Maybe just the way the picture is but that is what I see. I didnt know GM put those in trucks.

Don't want to be rude, but I believe that sticker might be new and made to look old. Alot of mispellings on that sticker. 454 impossible I think.

If I had to guess, I would think that if any '72 trucks were built with 454's, they would have had LS-4's. I would like to see some more pictures of this truck.

I 3rd that. The AM/FM would say something about push button, the tilt would be listed as comfort-tilt and I don't think the trans mission would be listed as a turbo hydra matic.

Re: Factory LS5 454 V8? See pic
I've seen typos on the SPIDS before. (this has nothing to do with the protectoplate, that's in the waranty book)
One thing not mentioned, the font looks like the 67/68 odd balls. Never seen a 69 - 72 with that typing font. never seen paint described as solid black paint, Didn't a 72 super come with cloth seats? Instead of optioned with it? (not sure, don't have time to look it up at the moment) Why does it list the partial model number in the special equipment spot? Why would a super have trim listed? They come with both upoper and lower automaticly. A siuper would also have the acc guages (although the tach would still be listed) 72Cheyenne454, it sounds like a cool truck... but I personally don't think it is real. I WOULD recemend however, for you to remove the seats, and look in the springs, and see if you could locate the build sheet. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 05-14-2007 at 05:12 AM. |

Longhorn man, I think the seats would come in vinyl and the optional cloth would be the houndstooth. A super would already have the belt moulding.

The type set still doesn't look right for a 72. Also, wouldn't it be covered with a laminate? I agree with Longhornman, pull the seat and see if the build sheet is there.

Can't you write GM and give them the vin. I thought I saw that on their restro page or something. I Thought did it with my 63 but I forget where I wrote. I know I did it with a VW (Yes I'm a geek) and got all kinds of info back.

I have to agree that the sheet is suspect... it really looks like that build sheet came off a dot matrix printer... those were about as rare as a 454 in a C-10 in 1972

Re: Factory LS5 454 V8? See pic
my sheet is not laminated either. i have a 67 and it looks just like that, the typing, i mean. it does not say the motor, though. all i know is that it was a V8, and i don't know what it is, all i know is that the 305 is not original, where could i send it to find out more? sorry about changing the subject

If your truck is a 67 and come with a base v-8(in other words no upgrade option on the glove box) then I think it would have been a 283 originally

The font does not look right for a 1972 Cheyenne Super.
