questions about my 79 K10
i just bought my 79 K10 last week and dont know too much about it yet. what T case does it have? it only has HI LOC, HI, N, LO, LO LOC and no 2wd setting. i think this is the full time 4 wheel drive T case the NP203 but am not sure. how good/strong is this transfer case? since this is gonna be my beater daily driver kinda would it be wise to swap in a NP205 which i believe has a 2wd setting? and how much do the NP205s cost new and used? my friend is junking a 91 blazer 4x4 and i could take this T case off of him if i want it, is the one in the 91 blazer a good one? or is the stock one in my truck the way to go? thanks.

Re: questions about my 79 K10
The truck should have a 203.The blazer *might* have the 208,or the 241(or something like that)?
The 203 is for full time 4wd.They are o.k. transfer cases.I would swap in a 205 if I had one though because they are great t-cases.They are kinda expensive though. I would just leave in the 203 rather than put in the one from the blazer Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 05-13-2007 at 03:02 PM. |

Re: questions about my 79 K10
i did a quick search and found that the 91 has a NP241 transfer case. is that a strong case? or is it not worth it? also, my truck is not going to be sitting on 44s and have 500 hp, its gonna have at most 350 hp and 35" tires.

Re: questions about my 79 K10
The 203s are an OK case, but since you are going big, run a 205. 1980 was the last for 205s in trucks/K-5s, only 1 tons had them. 241 is an OK case, but I don't think it will hold up to the motor/tires. Also is a slipyoke and not bolt on like the 203 is now.

Re: questions about my 79 K10
241 is a pretty good case. Slip yoke is its main down fall. I think running 35's is probably past the limits of what it can take. Its pretty long too. 205 would be better in my opinion. 205's for chevys come in 10 spline male for sticks..27 spline male for th350..and 32 spline female for th400. The adapters for the 205's are usually more expensive than the cases so if your junkyard shoping for one get the adapter too. 205's are just about unbreakable unless your really trying But if you were trying to say climb a log pile you could bust the front output right off or if you were trying to drive across a beaver dam you could break the rear output off along with twisting the driveshaft and snapping the yoke of the 14bolt ff rear.
