SM465 and NP205 knobs have the shift pattern engraved into the top of the knob. You would still be able to clearly read it even though it is painted.

not all of them, a friend of mine has a 70 blazer with a 205 and it has a chrome handle and plain black shift knob with nothing engraved into it
