'69 C30 motorhome question

Picked up my "new" motorhome the other day and after bringing it home realized the trans didn't go into park. It is a turbo 350. I also saw it has no "P" indicator on the trans position indicator on the column. Is this normal? Hard to believe the parking brake is meant to hold this heavy thing, cause it doesn't! Had a very hard time loading it on my trailer, which is angled since the brake can't hold it.

That's correct. I just bought a 70 and it's the same way. I was told it's internal, but have not talked to anyone about a fix yet.

Re: '69 C30 motorhome question

That should be a Turbo 400, and yes, C-30's with Turbo 400's didn't have a park position back then. I think Gm was worried the internal park lock in the transmission wasn't strong enough for thje GVW of those trucks.

Re: '69 C30 motorhome question

The motorhomes have a turbo 400. My 69 ex-motorhome GMC had the same thing----no park--same as you, not in the column or the trans. I swapped out the column for a tilt and rebuilt a different trans and swapped it in a couple of hours. I think GM did this to MAKE the owner of the vehicle set the parking brake.

The parts can be swapped in if you have a donor trans. I had a core already with the deep pan so I just rebuilt that and swapped out the whole unit

Re: '69 C30 motorhome question

Can it be fixed without pulling the trans?

I think so--the hardest part will be getting the pivot or pawl installed in the back/rear of the case, and either finding a little plug to put back in the hole or threading it and putting in a small pipe plug
