front suspension questions
i have a 1960 chevy pick up and i was wondering if the front cross member and a arms off of a 1882-83 pick up 3/4 ton would work and if i could convert the 3/4ton over if i changed the rotor and bearings to a 1/2 ton style.
please help? vinnie

Re: front suspention questions
Not sure buddy, I have a 65 and took 1/2 ton stuff from a 87 and put on mine. I am thinking that the control arms and crossmember would be fine then you would have to change the balljoints and get a 1/2 ton spindle which would hold the rotor and things. And you will have to make 4 holes bigger but it should be a bolt in other than that. Dont go by my word though man you might want to find info elsewhere. Dont you love how noone ever responds?

Re: front suspension questions
I've not done the cross member swap on a 60-62 myself.....I didn't think it would work because of the different frame. Then one day I saw one that was done and the guy said it was easy. Sounded like it was the same as doing it on a 63-66, just have to drill one new hole on each side, and elongate one each side. Yes you can convert that 3/4 ton to a 1/2 by changing the ball joints, spindles and rotors.....it's pretty straight forward.
When you get it done please post back and let us know how it went. |
