OK, the crossbar that attaches the 2 bag mounts together is what I'm thinking about redoing. Right now it is the highest point and I need to lower it by about 2 inches to get it under my bed floor. If I cut that piece of tubing off, shortened it vertically by cutting a little off tI was also thinking off just getting some 1/4" 4"-5" triangle gussets and welding on the sides of the bag mounts and doing away with that cross bar completely. Does anyone even understand what Im asking....?

Oh, and it may look like the crossbar is hitting the wishbone but there is a couple inches inbetween them, you just can tell from the pic...

I would say some beefy triangular gussets on each side of the bag mounts would work. They key being to get as much surface area on either edge of the triangle, like the full height of the frame.

i would gusset the mounts even if the cross bar was going to stay. there doesn't look like there is much keeping it from peeling anyway.

Well, its been driven like that pretty hard for thousands of miles. I don't think its going to break any time soon...

gussets will work to stop bag mount from bending up but keeping the cross member would be a good idea i have seen some trucks where guys didnt put in the crossmembers and they twisted there frame rails after time

that looks good. im doing a similar setup on my 86 but im using suicidedoors lever brackets and im using 2x2 for my lowers.

It wouldve been alot easier had you put the link bars lower on the frame, then you couldve put the brackets on the side of the frame rather than the top. Thats how I did mine.
