Question for the Transmission Guru's.

A freind of mine is giving me a 4L60E tranny for free. I plan on using it with my 5.3 GenIII swap.

My question is since he cant tell me weather or not its a good working tranny is there a way i can check it without installing it? I guess i could just take to a shop and have them check it out but i might as well have it rebuilt if i go that far.

I guess i need some advice here.

I really dont want to take it in if i dont have too.

Re: Question for the Transmission Guru's.

check the fluid, should be red or as red as possible, if its brown or brownish its burnt or burning but the only way to really know is to run it till it goes out

Re: Question for the Transmission Guru's.

I say there is no reason to put it in without getting it built how you want it anyhow.

It is going to go out on you if it has any mileage to speak of on it.
If it is free to start with, then you already saved that much. Just build it, and be happy with a nice tranny for many miles to come.
