shocks

i put some 3" drop coils in the front yesterday but now i need the right shocks. i still have the coil overs that were on but now theyre smashed all the way down and when i go over a speed bump or any bumo it just hits hard an solid. i tried the auto part stores and they couldnt help me. so i came to the experts here, can you guys help me?

a before an after. tires used to be 235/75/15 now theyre 225/60/15

do i need to get a a special kind? or just stock ones? like do they have ones for lowered vehichles?

I went with Toxic Shocks I think they are made by Rancho, but are for lowered sport trucks.

thanks guys. im getting rear springs from a jeep wrangler so that'll drop her 3" in the back. John its about 2.5 - 3 hours deppending how fast you drive

Since I have a 86' C10 front crossmember, w/2.5 drop spindles and 1 inch drop springs, we measured the full stroke then figured what was best. We also went with custom upper brackets (http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/arta008f-sy.html) we cut the length and reinforced the frame with a plate. I can shoot some pics and post if you would like.

The rear we used the stock mounts and again just did the math with the stroke, allowing for appropriate compression and extension.

I had my buddy Rich (speed merchant) do some research on the shocks. A stock shock will do 2" drop. He checked with KYB and BellTech. They supposibly dont make a lowered shock.

To get the best ride.....extending the upper shock mount would be the thing to do. Styling Concepts might have something different, though.

My truck shocks are all blown out know from being used as bumpstops...

Not sure on your front end, but what I did on my truck was cut out the bumpstop/steering stop mounts completely from the lower arm. This gives the truck like 2" more of travel...then use low pro bumpstop bolted to the lower a-arm. I have an xtra set you can have if you need them.

I was trying to find a smaller (shorter) shock from a different application that would work on your truck. (For example, back in the day I used to use Opel shocks on the front of slammed VW's)

If a stock stock will work for a 2" drop....then a "lowered" shock will be perfect for your truck. Although, extending the top mount will give you even better dampening !

thanks john that info helped alot. i think im going to order the toxic shocks from Styling Concepts 80 bux for both shipped. yea we should have a bbq. i wanna see the vdub you have, back in the day my pops used rebuild those motors all the time. maybe one day i can stop by your shop

Right on...do me a favor, when those shocks come in...can you give me compressed and extended measurements ?? Measure from eye center to eye center. Might take two people though.
