Kick Panels with Speakers
Those of you with the aftermarket kick panels with the raised speaker area, does the drivers side speaker interfere with the parking brake pedal ?
Also, I've seen the ones in LMC but I don't wanna pay for the speakers that I'm not going to use. Is there a place I can get a set without speakers, or should I just buy the ones from LMC and replace the speakers with my own ? |

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
I would try cardomain.com or crutchfield.com and search for the component enclosures or q logic kick panels.
I run a set in my monte carlo and love them. boatpuller, how come there's no room for error? In behind them? top bottom or what? I wanted to do that there or in the doors, but my old man swears you can't because they'll get wet and ruin them.

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
Q-Logic or Q-Forms (I don't remember which ATM) makes a set of kick panels which from what I am told do not interfere with the parking break functions, but I'd still be very careful...

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
OK,
QLogics - $169 from Crutchfield, Free Shipping 5.25 speakers holes with provisions for tweeters for use with component speakers. I have a set of good 5.25 coaxials I can use for the time being in these already, and I guess I have the option to use components if I get enough cash to afford them. ________ LMC - $159, shipping ??. Includes cheap 6.5's, no tweeter provisions. ________ The QLogic's seem to have the best value and seem to have better speaker positioning as well as the option for component speakers. If they don't interfere with the parking brake then I think these are the ones I will get. |

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
Are those the stock kick panels under the QLogics? Are they meant to be placed over the stock ones?

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
Is there any reason why those kick panel enclosures wouldn't work with the 73-78 chevy trucks?

Those were the ones I was looking at. In that pic they seem to replace the stock panel entirely. |

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
how did you manage this case in my 86 when it was done with 61/2 speakers it cut into the fire wall allowing water into the speaker space and cab a bit letting it rust out faster.

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
I hope that your not supposed to put them over the other ones. That looks kind of cheesy. Your right the picture from Crutchfield doesn't look like they are on top of the original kick panels.

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
that's the tricky part.......if your not right on,your into the firewall.it cost me 45.00 for them to install and 69.00 for the premeire's.it is cheaper route than the qlogic's.but it isn't for everybody.make sure they know where to drill or you'll be getting them wet.i'm lucky enough to keep mine inside and don't drive it in the rain.but they still didn't get into the firewall.so they stay dry.

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
Getting a speaker wet isn't really that big of a deal... Everyone tries to say it is, but rain water, tap water, and the like do not conduct electricity very well and there isn't that much of a corrosion factor involved with the speakers.
I have speakers in both the kicks and the doors. I wash my truck 2-3 times a week and guess what, everything is fine...

Re: Kick Panels with Speakers
You don't want your speakers getting wet. the voice coil is copper, and often the former is aluminum, and of course most have steel baskets. The gap between the voice coil and former is very small, and the slightest amount of corrosion can cause a rub or buzz. More corrosion will cause the soeaker to become completely inoperable. I've ruined my share of door speakers in cars because of water running right into the voice coil and causing these problems.
You can buy foam "baskets" that can be installed with the speaker to protect it from the elements. It's acoustically transparent (or at least very close), yet will keep water off the speaker. I know that Parts Express sells them, but I'm sure plenty of other places do too. Last edited by Jim85IROC; 05-22-2007 at 10:14 AM. |
