grant steering wheel/horn problem
Here's my problem. I installed a grant steering wheel on my 72 following their instructions. when i went to rehook the battery cables the horn was on. I thought I would just unplug the connection to the horn button and figure it out tomorrow. no dice horn still stuck on even with horn button unhooked. I have come to terms with the fact that I am incompetant with a wrench but I thought I could handle a steering wheel. any suggestions on what I might try??

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
Time to pull it all back off. Maybe you got the horn wire pinched (& grounding out) in there somehow?

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
pretty common with grant products . if you get it working correctly they usually have a life span of about 7minutes

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
I have a LeCarra I'm about to install on my truck, can I expect horn problems too?

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
Believe me, you're not the first to have problems with a Grant horn kit. I never did get mine to work, even after going through two kits. Like I've said before, with Grant, the horn won't blow, it sucks!

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
This isn't very encouraging folks. My horn hasn't been hooked up since I got the truck and I was thinking about getting it working soon. I figured there was a reason it wasn't hooked up after the Grant wheel was installed.

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
I had the same problem installing my stock steering wheel .... so I don't know if Grant is the blame here or not. In the pictures the nylon screw retainer goes into the horn bucket and the contact plate fits on the rear of the bucket. Below this is a nylon part that holds a spring which makes the contact when you press your horn button. It is important that the bucket can swivel once the horn ass. is complete other wise you will be in constant contact and the horn will sound and not shut off.
Check yours out .... take the horn button off and press on the bucket and see if it swivels. If it does not swivel you are in constant contact. Disassemble and reassemble. esll.

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
Don't forget the easily lost foil contact sticker. Without that you need to tape the end of the horn wire and not use the horn. They work good when done right. BTW the foilr sticker instructions are vague or non-existant in many Grant install kits.

Re: grant steering wheel/horn problem
My grant wheel still works correctly after several years. There is something pinching the horn wire. Should be a simple fix once you have the wheel off and can see what happened. The pinch point should be obvious in the wire if it is pinched hard enough for constant contact.
You'll get it just fine- just take it back apart and look carefully.
