Perhaps a stupid question

Does the wood floor in my 69 stepside give any strength to the rest of the box? I guess the real question is, if I remove the plywood bed floor that the PO had put in, will my bed fall apart while going down the road?
I told you up front it was a stupid question.

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

It won't fall apart but, with no wood the only thing holding the bed to the frame is the rear cross sill. The rest of the bed bolts go through the bed wood to the frame.

and if you remove the bed wood, then i believe everytime you hit a pothole or a buig neough bump, then your headpanel will slap against the frame. don't quote me on that one though

Re: Perhaps a stupid question

The furthest front floor support is bolted to the bed and the steps so if you leave it in you will have four bolts holding the bed on, two front, two rear. I drove mine for a couple months like this and the PO drove it like taht for a couple years. Very light in the rear though, makes it real easy to spin the tires.

Re: Perhaps a stupid question

I mounted my 50' box to the frame and then put the wood in on top of the main hold down bolts so that these odd ball factory bolts could not be seen. On my 70' I'm in the process of putting in the new bed floor and on this truck I will be showing these bolts. The box will be fine as long as you put these bolts in with out the wood as the wood does nothing to hold the bed to the box. I've driven the 70' off and on over the last year like this.

esll.

Hey, there's a plus.

Thanks for the input. It sounds like it should be ok to take it out for a little while. The plywood is de-laminating and is looks so bad I can't stand it, but not ready to put in hardwood yet.
