Painting the frame.

What is the best type of paint for the frame? I am doing the disc conversion and would like to paint crossmember before installing it.

I was shown some pictures of the finished product. At least it survived the junk yard.

Re: Painting the frame.

do you want the original look of a gm frame or whatever comes in a spray can? you can use dp90, its kind of an old trick in the gm restoration shop i work at, looks just like it did from the factory. my shop uses dp on all their high end original restorations, but its just my 2 cents.

Re: Painting the frame.

Lots of guys have used POR 15 and Rust Bullet, as stated above. I know Eastwood make some stuff called Rust Encapsulator, but I don't know much about it. I used Rustoleum on mine, mainly because it was less expensive and didn't have to be ordered. Good luck with whatever you decide and post some pics when you get it painted.

Re: Painting the frame.

Rustoleum from a spray can. Quick, easy, and available at Wal-Mart. primered first then painted. We'll see how it holds up.

Re: Painting the frame.

I used a single stage urethane paint that I had left over from a previous paint job. I also just used rattle can primer because I try not to leave primer in my spray gun for any extended length of time and when I work on my truck I might work an hour here and and hour there each week. Using rattle cans I didn't have to worry about cleaning primer guns all the time..................Bamm!

Re: Painting the frame.

I used POR15 (because it was free and it works great). I will use it again on the new truck when I get to that stage.
