Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

what wheelbase? what trans and transfer case? what axles? those 3 factors will play a BIG part in driveline angles.

Are those fog lights you put into the bumper ? What brand and model are they ? I've been looking for a set of fogs that will fit into these bumpers.

They are just no name lights. I got them off Ebay because 1. they are dual lights....fog and driving. 2. they are just about the perfect size. 3. they were cheap, if I remember about 25.00-30.00. I tried to make them look nice and stock, but I just couldn't. I pulled that bumper off last week and put an 84 solid one on with the same lights mounted on top. I had to make a bracket that was "z" shaped, and also had to trim both outer bumper mounts to get them to fit back like that. I wanted to put the factory style turn signal light lens' in the bumper and have the fog lights mounted behind. The original light houseings were cut open to fit the fog light housing in, but the light coming out was only about 25%. I think some plexiglass would work better, or nothing at all. If you want some pics PM me. David

Anything more than 4" and they <4 wheel & offroad magazine>recomend new driveshafts on 73 to 87 LWB Full size trucks.
Dont forget that your back shaft gets longer under spring compression because of your shackles.
But custom shafts are not that expensive.
The big problem with more than 4" of lift is wheel alignment. Example you can shim for your pinion angle but then that screws up your wheel alignment.
4" of lift and 33" of tire is high enough that I have to jump to get into my truck and im 6 foot 4" tall. Honestly I wouldnt have lifted my truck that much but I wanted heavy duty springs and the 4" aftermarket springs have a higher load rating than the 2.5" suspension lift kits.
GM doesnt sell one ton springs anymore and there are no custom spring shops around here so I went with Superlifts 4" system.

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

Jumping to get into a truck is nothing I litterally had to pull my self up to get into the 1986 1 ton with 10" and 3" and 40" super swampers that I rode in.

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

My truck has a 4" lift and 33s and I never really found it difficult to get in, and I'm only 5' 9".

This is about the only pic I've got of the truck after I put the lift in:

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

That's way to short I might have to go 6 inch and 35's. Maybe 4" and 3". what do you guys think?

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

there's certainly nothing extreme about a 4" and 33s on a long bed truck. It drives just as well as stock, but still allows me to see over everything else on the road, including stock trucks. I'd love another 2" of lift and 35s, but these tires have a LOT of tread left in them, so it's not likely that I'll be going any higher for quite some time.

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

If I go 4 and 3 I wont have to lengthen my drive shafts, but if I go with 6 inches of suspension lift I will have to go with a new drive shaft meaning more $. How much does a custorm drive shaft cost? how much tire can I fit with 4 and 3? how about 6 inches of suspension? If I only get 4 inches now may later on I would want to go with 6 and then I would have do by all new springs and I dont want to buy something twice hmm what to do what to do.

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

I don't think I'd ever do a body lift. Nothing looks worse than a bunch of frame hanging below the truck.

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

First time poster, long time reader, great topics, love the forums board.

I bought this 1978 C20 2WD L292 last year and restored it from a old city truck. I did not make it show room, but make it look decent, more so then when I got it. I restored the outside and inside of the truck over a 3 month period. It is not hard to find a 3/4 ton here in Texas, but it is not easy to find one that is solid. It does need some engine work to fix leaks, but other wise it runs and drives great.

Re: how about some 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

Well looking at that last truck (nice truck by the way) I wonder - if most 2wd truck are so low in the front, why is the front end of my half-ton 2wd high as kite compared to them? My original I6 engine has been replaced by the heavier 350 V8, but my suspension looks like it's never been taken apart (rust is a good indicator for that)... Was there a "lifted" option for them 2wd trucks back in the '70s?
