I found a pretty good deal here locally on an 84 C10 front sway bar. I plan on using it with the ECE drop bushins and brackets, I already asked ECE if the bar will fit.. it will.. but my question is.. is this bar as good as buying a new one? would it be solid or hollow? and what size bar did most of the trucks around this year come with?

If it's a C10 it's about the same size or maybe a little bigger. I always heard to look for a 3/4 ton or 1 ton bar. Look for a C20 or C30.

They are solid 1 piece sway bars and anything from a 67-87 and a 1/2 ton - 1 ton will work on these trucks. I may be wrong but I think factory ones were 1 1/8" thick, but the best is the 1 ton sway bar at about 1 3/4" thick. I was fortunate enough to get mine off a 72 at the auto ranch for $20 including brackets

In 1984 trucks could come with 26.92 mm (1 1/16 in) or 31.75 mm (1 1/4 in). Since it is a C-10 it will be 1 1/16. It is a solid bar.

so if I could find one of these bars for say.. $40 that would be a good deal? I have a performance suspension sway for the rear thats 1-1/8" solid I think.

it'd still need sandblasting and painting.. but thats no problem.

I paid $30 for mine. It was a stock C10 unit.

If you could snag one off a 1-ton, you would have a 1-1/4" bar. Believe it or not, this thing is almost 40% larger than the standard 1-1/16" bar on the 1/2 and 3/4-ton trucks.

well, I was just looking through my junkyard pics directory, and came across what looks like a c20 or c30 67 tow truck.. maybe it will have a sway I can use...

if not. the 84 C10 bar will hafta work.

the guy told me he didn't have any interchangability info on suspension parts, so he couldn't tell me for sure, but he'd be glad to have it off and ready for me for $35 and some tax

LSx 6.0 with BTR Stage IV, Speed Engineering Headers, 4L80e transmission w/3200 Circle-D Stall. 3.73. Posi. Purchased this truck when I was 17. I started the rebuild (or take apart) in 1993. I have drug it around all over the country in pieces. Finally back on the road in 2021. "I can't complain, but sometimes I still do. Life's been good to me so far."
