Re: School bus?

This is the only light-duty model I've seen as a school bus (from the '68 Silver Book). I believe the C-40 thru C-60 chassis-cabs were used by the various school bus manufacturers (Blue Bird, Superior, etc.) who grafted their bodies on the chassis. I may have some pics in a book I have at home if you're interested in seeing them.

Re: School bus?

If you are talking about the type of school bus that uses the hood, grille, and front fenders of a medium duty (C-60 type) truck, both the Chevy and GMC school bus chassis used the '67-'72 sheet metal all the way up until 1984.

Re: School bus?

Joe, here you go. If you look closely at the 3rd pic you'll see brand new school buses in the background at the Superior factory. The 1st is a 1981, 2nd is a 1974, and the ones in the 3rd are from 1967, but all are using '67-'72 type sheet metal for the chassis-cowl.

Re: School bus?

I personally would prefer a 366 with a California crown body I love how they slope back It always irritated me how they used a crown school bus in Forest Gump there is no way a school bus would go all the way to Alabama if they were sold in California especially since it was still being used as a school bus sorry for my ranting sometimes I hate Hollywood lol. My dad was a transportation director back in the day he would go to the Bluebird factory in Mt. Pleasant Iowa and pick up the brand new buses the only ones that were Chevy's though 85's

Re: School bus?

I work for the school district and rode in a bus identical to the one in the first pic 2nd year for the district and again last year (my 7th) I swore it was a '84 ??? The steering wheel resembled that of a 67-8 Chevy pickup but much larger in diameter, the ash tray (yes a ash tray in a school bus) was that of a 67-72, the lighter delete was the same, the ignition switch assembly the same, the knobs, headlight switch, the remote reservoir ps pump reservoir (same as the bb trucks) this had a diesel. the driver seat almost looked like the heavier duty bucket seats found in some of the panel deliverys and earlier 4x4 blazers. The tow hooks looked the same and were in the front and back! might be worth checking into ?
