Will a 81 thru 87 tailgate fit a 79 ?

If not can you tell me the fitment differences?

Actually, I think the latches that connect to the bed are in different locations. I can get you a couple pics of some different 73-80 'gates if it helps.

The gate should fit but you will probably need the rubber bump stops , complete latches , and I think the mounts are a different size . The mounts being the lower attachment point that the gate swings on . Frank

So if I transfered all the parts from my 79 gate to the other gate, it would fit????

Here is the background. I have a gate that has CHEVROLET stamped in it but my truck is a GMC. I have not been able to find a tailgate band in decent shape with the GMC emblem but I did find a newer gate with GMC stamped in it. This is why I am trying to see if it will fit with minor or no modification.

Yep I got an 86 tailgate on my truck and used all the 86 harware to do it. One pivit peice is the same but I cant remember which one.
