Bed Floor...metal or wood...which weighs more?

cannot find a new short bed metal replacement...thinking of wood.

my guess would be that the wood would weigh more but i could be wrong

Yeah I was thinking that...extra thickness of the wood (although not as dense as steel) and the steel strips in between.etc.

I don't know, its a good question. That steel floor is pretty heavy, the wood was originally pine, 1x6's or 1x8's, not very heavy boards.
My guess is the steel floor.

The best thing I have found so far is floor halves from tabco. They make a right half and a left half but I have not come across anyone who stamps out a one piece floor. These halves measure 98" x 38"

The problem with that tabco floor is that the rear edge is is not bent down at a 90 degree angle like the originals were. It would be pretty difficult to make it look
right.

The strange thing is that the short wheelbase is the more sought after truck. Either in fleetside or stepside. So why not produce the shortbed bed?

Do they expect us to cut down the long bed halves? Man that is a lot of welding.

With the rear lip...couldn't that be put in a brake and bent to a 90? I would imagine at that point of the piece of metal it is flat and not corrugated.

I had to fix my steel floor with a million patches & some were from the area under the tailgate. Bending the edge was easy - i just held the steel bed over a sharp 90degree corner of a piece of 1/2" steel & hammered it over. I then dressed it lightly with my grinder. Hey Buck yours looks good. I am in the middle of redoing a LWB floor myself. Not much rust but there are quite a few small dents to take out. It should turn out pretty good if I ever get it finished.
