I have manual drums all around as well. There's only been a couple times when I had the pucker factor kick in. I feel they are fine for my DD. Power would be nice, but I'm content with manual. I eventually intend to upgrade to 4-wheel discs.

Mine is drum/drum and I put about 1500 miles/month on the clock. Brakes were kinda crap before, but after a total rebuild, they are pretty amazing. I have never had any fade/stopping issues, and it brakes nice and straight. Just make sure the adjuster mechanism is working. Each time I replace the shoes, I put new adjuster screws in front, and put the old front ones in back.

my 69 Daily driver is manual drums all the way around. they,ve always worked good for me and i love it to tell you the truth i dont think i would ever swap to power brakes on it. but i think i'll put power brakes on my 77 since its all torn apart.

I've had three trucks with manual drums.All worked fine and the last 2 were daily drivers.I plan on upgrading mine to disc since I want to lower it 2.5/4 but otherwise I would probably stay with the drums.One of the car mags did a story a couple of years ago an drilling the drums.It seems like if you drill evenly spaced holes of small diameter in the friction surface of the drums you get the same benefits as slotted and drilled rotors.It supposedly releases the gasses caused when braking and also lets the shoes cool better.I have never done it and don't know what shops will do it.Just throwing it out there since some of the members may have more info.

I have the drum drum but upgraded my 1/2 booster to a 3/4 ton booster with the dual diaframs(sp) what a difference love them now.

I agree but unfortunately all the idiots on the roads (some have the nerve to call themselves drivers) around here don't care. I like to leave at minimum 75-100 feet between me and the car I'm following but that doesn't do me any good when I get cutoff and then can't see anything but brake lights. Theres nothin like the feeling of needing to stomp on the oh sh1t peddle and then realizing you already have one foot on it and the other won't help very much. I have power drum/drum but as soon as I have the time I'm swaping with my parts truck for 5-lug disc/drum.

Folks, I drove my 1963 truck for twenty years (17,000 miles) with manual drums. I upgraded to power disc brakes this year and the difference is amazing. If you have a modified motor and like to run it through the gears, good brakes are just cheap insurance.

I still have 4WD (4-wheel drums). It wasn't a problem when it was moving, and at the moment their are no immediate plans to go with discs. Whenever it does get back on the road (Translation, when ever I get it back together) it will have a power booster for the drums instead of being manual.

My C20 has factory power drum/drum brakes, I drive it every day. Once we installed new brake shoes, M/C, and booster it stopped like a new truck. I haul a lot and pull trailers(bumper and gooseneck, no longer than 25ft) every once in awhile, never had problems getting the truck to stop while towing.

i have manual drum drum on my 69 daily driver. drive it 50 - 150 miles a day. theywern't what i was used to at first but after driving it awhile they seem just fine.some jack ass backed up without looking in the gas station parking lot last week and i found out that they have no problem locking up 31x 10.5s on all 4 corners. i will convert to disks on the front eventualy but if you leave a little distance and slow down before you know you have to stop there is nothing unsafe about them.
