A friend of mine mentioned to me about a quick temporary paint job on my truck while I work on my new motor and drive the truck for the summer.
He said that I could just use some Scotchbright pads to scuff up the panels a bit and then put a few coats of flat black paint on from a spray can ![]() Im looking for some pros and cons before I do this. Heres a pic of what it looks like. |

Read this:

Re: Good idea or Bad idea (temp. paint)
No, it will look goofy, especially with black. Even spray can flat black will look off. I've done it, and it fades badly. The best thing to do (if you can get your hands on a spray gun for a day) would be do follow what longhornman did for his truck.

Re: Good idea or Bad idea (temp. paint)
It would work ok, but besides the fact your truck is different colors, it really doesnt "need" paint.. i would only do that if it was exposed metal and you had rust issues

Re: Good idea or Bad idea (temp. paint)
What's wrong with the paint for now?
I would only mess with it if the paint was gone. You will spend hours and $$ on scuffing and painting only to have even more to remove when you paint later.

Re: Good idea or Bad idea (temp. paint)
![]() Plus it will take a lot of spray bombs to completely cover your truck...it could get a lot more expensive than you think.

Re: Good idea or Bad idea (temp. paint)
67ChevyRedneck has you headed in a good direction.
It totally sucks rollin around town in a multi colored hooptie lookin gypsi wagon. Been there, done that. This may well be one of the cheapest ways to get a coat of paint on there, and it is 100 times better than spray bomb crap. I've been there too... I'd rather stay multi colored than spray bomb. The link he offered is fairly long... but there's lotsa good info in there. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=slopped+paint |

Re: Good idea or Bad idea (temp. paint)
Its takes a ton of paint to get a good coat with spray cans. You could make it look cool but it would take a BUNCH of cans. Roll it or spray it with a gun...

Re: Good idea or Bad idea (temp. paint)
Get some cheap a$$ orange Rustoleum, scotch brite and paint. Don't even bother with filler since any extra labor you spend is a big waste of time. Shoot and make it a decent 50 footer! Don't even bother to repaint the front clip except where it isn't orange. Just my 0.02...LOL! Leave the top black since some trucks were painted that way from the factory as I recall...looks cool...minimum amount of work!
