Anybody using fiberglass parts? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I haven't read much about people using fiberglass, other than an occasional hood - maybe the thought of that is taboo. I was wondering because I've seen doors, hoods, fenders, entire beds, ...etc. The thought of no more rust sounds good to me.
Any thoughts or experiences?

They make complete fiberglass bodies for these trucks, cabs, beds, etc.i dont have any glass on mine, but my mustang is mostly glass.Complete front end, doors, rear hatch.The only issue i had was that if the glass wasnt thick enough it would warp over time.

the glass panels that i have seen are supposed to be superlight for racing purposes not for street use. not sure if they are all like that.

about 15-16 years ago, Truckin magazine (before it was devoted to nothing but late models on 22's) did an article on replacing everything on a 73 C10 but the cab with fiberglass panels. They claimed it turned out well, they used a flip front end which i personally, am not crazy about tho.

Maybe somebody else's memory is better than mine, but thats been awhile back

I think the company is US Bodyworks or maybe Fairlane.It seems like most of the stuff was for racing use only(read flimsy)

At one time the only step fenders you culd get new were fiberglass. My metal ones having been fixed a couple of times needed to go so I got a set. I have been very pleased with them. They seem to be the same weight as metal and I had a lot of Go Rhino bed liner sprayed in them to keep the rock spiders down. I have one and its over on the side where there wasn't much liner. Very hard to really notice. I will probably go to the new metal ones now at some time but the fiberglass have served me very well. They are not flimsy.

I absolutely do not believe in post bashing but this one compels me

I'm a racer first, hot rod truck owner second. Racers use lots of fibergless and the US body stuf is @#$%^&*^%$# - thas right, @#$%^&*^%$# racers have a gag about 2 fiberglass companies - US body and Bruis glassworks in TN - they put the huge bumper sticker sized band-aid decals at the points that the bodies/parts crack - just to make fun of the junk fiberglass.

I bought a set of 73-87 fiberglass front fenders from unlimited performaance - junk

other than hoods - there is no good glass i know of by the quality companies

If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
